Attractions in Belgrade

Belgrade is the capital and largest city of Serbia. It is located at the confluence of the Sava and Danube rivers and the crossroads of the Pannonian Plain and the Balkan Peninsula. The urban area of Belgrade has a population of 1.23 million, while nearly 1.7 million people live within the administrative limits of the City of Belgrade (which encompasses almost all of its metropolitan area), a quarter of total population of Serbia.

    Kalemegdan Park or simply Kalemegdan , is the largest park and the most important historical monument in Belgrade. It is located on a 125-metre-high (410 ft) cliff, at the junction of the River Sava and the Danube. Its name is formed from the two Turkish words: Kale (meaning "fortress") and archaic word of Turkish origin megdan (meaning "battlefield"). In 1928, in honor of the tenth anniversary of the victory of World War I, people at the commanding heights of the castle placed a statue called "Pobednik" and became a symbol of Belgrade.

    The House of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia is the seat of the National Assembly of Serbia. The building is on Nikola Pasic Square in downtown Belgrade, and is a landmark and tourist attraction. Between its completion in 1936 and 2006, it was the seat of the Parliament of Yugoslavia and the Parliament of Serbia and Montenegro. Reservations can be made inside the National Assembly, but only on weekdays, and reservations must be made by phone or email.

    The Church of Saint Sava is a Serbian Orthodox church located on the Vracar plateau in Belgrade, Serbia. It is one of the largest Eastern Orthodox church buildings and ranks among the largest church buildings in the world. The church is dedicated to Saint Sava, the founder of the Serbian Orthodox Church and an important figure in medieval Serbia. It is built on the Vracar plateau, on the location where his remains were burned in 1595 by Ottoman Grand Vizier Sinan Pasha.

    The Muzej Istorije Jugoslavije was founded in 1996 and was formerly known as the Tito Memorial Center and the Yugoslav National Museum. The museum is divided into three parts, the most famous of which is the Kuća Cveća, the cemetery of the leader of the Federal Republic of Josip Broz Tito, as well as a permanent exhibition on the life of Tito; The museum (Stari Muzej) houses many precious gifts given to him by Tito's leaders and the community; Muzej 25.maj is mainly used for various temporary exhibitions.

    The Nikola Tesla Museum (Serbian: Muzej Nikole Tesle) is a science museum located in the central area of Belgrade, the capital of Serbia. It is dedicated to honoring and displaying the life and work of Nikola Tesla. It holds more than 160,000 original documents, over 2,000 books and journals, over 1,200 historical technical exhibits, over 1,500 photographs and photo plates of original, technical objects, instruments and apparatus, and over 1,000 plans and drawings. The Nikola Tesla Archive was inscribed on UNESCO's Memory of the World Programme Register in 2003 due to its critical role regarding history of electrification of the world and future technological advancements in this area.
